Saidy began bringing her son Ian to STRIDE when he was just 18 months old. With the support of Dr. Fahed, Ian was diagnosed early with Level 2 autism. Their story shows why regular pediatric checkups are so important throughout a child's growth and development.
A Mother's Journey
As a single mother and head of her household, the journey has not been easy for Saidy. Getting her child the treatment he needs while working to support her family has meant facing some very difficult decisions. How do you choose between working to put food on the table and taking your child to the therapy he also needs?
But Dr. Fahed went far beyond a diagnosis.
She connected Saidy with organizations across Colorado where she could find the therapeutic support Ian needed, as well as resources that helped her continue his treatment.
"Today, I would drive across the city to see Dr. Fahed at any STRIDE clinic where she is," Saidy says.
It's a simple statement that reflects the trust she has built with the provider who has supported her son throughout all these years.
Saidy's Advice to Other Parents
"Take note of any changes or difficulties you notice in your child and bring them up during their pediatric visits. When you only have 30 minutes with your provider, every detail matters. Something that may seem small could make a difference."

Where They Are Today
Ian is now 7 years old. These years have been filled with his mother's love and dedication, the support of his 16-year-old sister — who, despite her young age, has been a constant source of strength for her mother — and STRIDE's continued support of their family.
Saidy shares her story in the hope that it can inspire and help other mothers raising a child with autism who may not have the guidance or resources they need to know what to do or where to turn for help.
Today, Ian goes to school, plays sports, spends time with his friends, and loves looking at and smelling flowers.
